Overview
The 13th edition of The Takeover is headed to a tropical island located in the heart of the Caribbean: Antigua (pronounced An-tee-gah). Antigua and its sister island Barbuda are best known for their friendly and welcoming people, pink and white-sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and the most satisfying and enjoyable climate in the world. Antigua’s shoreline is washed almost exclusively by the Caribbean Sea and is hugged by 95 miles of superb coastline. No other island in the Caribbean boasts a beach for every day of the year, but Antigua does with 365 beaches from the bustling Pigeon Point to the kitesurfing paradise of Jabberwock Beach.
Highlights
Shirely Heights Lookout on Sunday
Shirley Heights is a restored military lookout that affords the best view in Antigua. The view is especially spectacular at sunset and early evening when all of English Harbour is all lit up. A visit to Shirley Heights is considered one of the must do events in Antigua. Its famous Sunday evening party is always a hit, with drinks BBQ, and local bands playing live music.
The Boonji Spaceman at Hodges Bay
The Boonji Spaceman stands 22 feet high at the end of the pier at Hodges Bay and is the tallest sculpture of its kind in the Caribbean. Striking a Michael Jackson-inspired dance pose, the steel and carbon fiber sculpture is emblazoned with words and mathematical equations. Artist and creator Brendan Murphy said that the piece "is a tribute to human ingenuity and resilience and is focused around my fascination with imagination."
Prickly Pear Island Excursion
Spend a day on an uninhabited Caribbean island with a boat excursion to Prickly Pear Island, included in your Takeover package. Go to chill on the white sand beach or enjoy the crystal-clear waters. The island is surrounded by shallow reefs loaded with tropical fish.
